Readers Report
My earlier notes are at #353. The "cowpath" was also known as "the lane." It ran diagonally between Kimball and Ryder from Quentin Rd. to Ave P, then between Kimball and Coleman from P to Flatbush. According to my brother, most of it is still there. Some folks weren't sure where the pool was in the St. George's Hotel. It was on the third floor and there was a balcony that ran around it.
My Brooklyn began at at Brooklyn Jewish. I went to P.S. 221 from 1950 to 1955 when my family moved to New Hampshire. We lived at 904 E. New York Ave. just off Utica and across from an ice creamery. I remember mornings before school going down to the corner grocery for milk and passing that open pickle barrel that drew me, tempting me to stick my hand in. My best friend was Seymour Winokour who lived three or four doors down and my first love was Harriet Rappaport. I went to school with Marilyn Dickstein, David Cohen, Steve Gutterman who held his pencil between his first and third finger and Marilyn Michaels. Some of my teachers were Mrs. Snider in 1st and 2nd grade, Mrs. Egre in 3rd or 4th and Mrs. Katz in 5th grade.
