Yes, this was my Brooklyn I loved it and miss it.
Went to Coney Island for the first time in my life this past Saturday . . . parked my car on the street next to Nathan's . . . had a hot dog and then walked up the street from Nathan's to the boardwalk. . . . The area between Nathan's and the boardwalk is an absolute disgrace. . . . It smelled like a cesspool. . . . I must say I have no desire to return to the area. . . . Hopefully someone will clean it up.
I lived in Coney Island from 1950 to 1960. Great place to live then. Walk the boardwalk at midnight with no fear. Mark Twain J.H.S., Lincoln H.S. Hy & Artie's luncheonette, 24th St. & Mermaid Avenue. Listening to Alan Freed every night. Remember submarine races? Egg creams, mello rolls, halvah candy, dances at St. Rose of Lima. Anybody remember those days e-mail me. Love this site, brings back so many wonderful memories. I remember the parade through the streets when the Dodgers won the series—my Mother led one parade, what a night. . . .
