Growing up in Mill Basin having moved from an apartment on Linden Boulevard . . . attending P.S. 236 (dropping in on the Dutch farmhouse in the woods behind the school when alone and driving past the dairy farm on Flatlands Ave. when with parents), Roy H. Mann J.H.S., and Madison H.S. (class of 1970). . . . My Brooklyn was a place where you could go anywhere anytime on foot, subway, or maybe the bus and travel to the far corners of the world like Staten Island even as a kid. I left town for college and never really went back. Even now, I wonder about my high school classmates and if there will be an occasion to run into them and find out how each of us turned out. I design computer systems, have two children, and basically have gotten all that I bargained for out of life.
Been gone for over twenty-five years now, but it feels like yesterday. Wishing to hear from anyone who graduated class of 1970 from St. Matthew's on Utica Avenue. Went there for eight years, best memory is playing punchball in the courtyard and driving the nuns crazy. More to come . . .
My Brooklyn was the walking along Bay Parkway. Stopping at Hy Tulip for a potato knish. Walking across the bridge along "Perfume Bay" to Coney Island on my way to Mark Twain Junior High School. Stopping on the way home at Nosh A Pizza for a slice. Only in Brooklyn. I moved away a long time ago, and never stopped missing it.
