My mom lived somewhere on Union St. and also Washington St. back in the forties and fifties. Her name was Alice Shields. She is deceased now and I guess her close friend Eddie Deer may be too. I was adopted, put to a family in Georgia. But if any one remembers her from those times, e-mail me. Her mom's name was Mary Shields and her father was Glenn Shields, a sailor or coast guard or other service. She had several sisters and brothers. Thank you for any and all info. I, too, have a close fondness for Brooklyn, although I've not been there since I was five.
Brooklyn is a place full with happiness and joyful things. I am only thirteen years old and have been living in New York since I was born. I live in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. For me Sunset Park is a wonderful place to meet new people. You will always have a person to guide you to your destination.
I have nothing but fond memories of growing up in Bay Ridge. I was born in 1956 and lived across the street from P.S. 102 at 7201 Ridge Blvd. and attended Our Lady of Angels Grammar School. I remember my friends (Ricky and Mary Triano, Johnny Simack, Billy Lake, Billy Role, Robert Nelson, etc.) and liked playing on 72nd St. and in the "pits" at P.S. 102. I loved going to Bogen's candy store (at least that's what I called it) on the corner of 72nd and 3rd Ave. I think stoop ball is only played in Brooklyn. Anyway, my family moved to Elizabeth, NJ, in 1968 and it was sooo different. No sense of community at all. I finished college and now work for the Federal Government in D.C. (I live in Northern Virginia). Boy, do we need some Brooklyn common sense down here! I haven't been back to Bay Ridge in many years. Think I'll go up in April and just walk around for awhile.
