East New York from the time I was two in 1945 until we moved to Eastern Parkway and Franklin Avenue in 1959. Left Brooklyn in 1963 for the west coast. Any of my old buddies out there, reading this? Contact me.

I am also a former alumnus of 1010 President Street, having lived there from my birth in 1947 until we moved to Co-op City in the Bronx in 1968. I remember Ben & Sol's Deli (they had a Chinese cook who spoke better Yiddish than my mother). The neighborhood had the best bakeries and candy stores. There was Normandy bakery on Franklin Ave. for breads and cakes, and across the street was Topps for cookies and pastries. Every corner had a candy store. Some made better malteds, some better lime rickies, some better egg-creams and some had better stick pretzels. Does anyone remember mello-rolls? All these provincial hicks I have to live with in New Jersey think I am making the word up. E-mail me or reply with more stories; I am looking forward to reliving this great part of my life.
