AHHH. My Brooklyn was Maple Street, between Bedford and Rogers. It was the center of my world for 35 years. I lived on the same block from 1959 till 1994. Can you believe it. I'll post some fond memories when I have the time to put 35 years of them together, until then, thanks for forum to look back and remember, and smile. . . .
Gravesend, my home. Whitney Place, punchball with Vinni Licari and Joey Orlando. Hebrew School and Talmud Torah with Rabbi and Rebetzin Rosenbaum. Going to P.S. 95, Boody and Lincoln. Having a crush on Marcia Roth and Carmela Macco. My Dad forming the Cub and Boy Scout troop 646 and having Gil Hodges as our scoutmaster. Those wonderful trips to Ebbets Field to see The Duke, Oisk, Pee Wee, Gilly Jackie, Scoong et al. Those wonderful Friday night dinners at my grandparents in East Flatbush. Spending Saturdays with my Bubbe and Zaydee, listening to the great Moishe Kuzevitsky chant the Shabbos services. Growing up in Brooklyn was wonderful. We were poor but love abounded in my house. My parents and family imbued the love of great music. The trips to Carnegie Hall and the Old Met on 39th Street. Coney Island, Nathan's Steeplechase are vivid in my memory. The girls were the greatest at Bay 2 & 3 in Brighton Beach. Yes, it was a wonderful childhood.
My Brooklyn is Canarsie in the 70s & 80s. It then became Bensonhurst for three years. We then bought a house in New Jersey and seven months later we are moving back! Nothing compares to Brooklyn! I love it!
