Born in 1958, I grew up on 50th Street between 8th and 9th Ave., went to Saint Agatha's school. This was a neighborhood of many cultures. I lived in a 16-family apartment building that shared a stoop with another 16-family building, which made the stoop large enough for all the children to share a space and play many games such as stoop ball, slap ball, jump rope.

45 Linden Boulevard, across from the library, apartment 1C (between Flatbush and Bedford), was my world. First P.S. 92, then Walt Whitman J.H.S., and finally Erasmus Hall High School class of '61.
I loved music and played with everyone musical including Artie Butler, Les Harstein, Lou Levitown, and Nick DuMauro. We had all the church dances "locked up." Our band was hot and cheap . . . what more could you ask?
I miss pizza for 15 cents a slice, french fries for 10 cents a greasy bag, and Garfield's, yes Garfield's. I also miss the Teen Canteen on Caton Avenue (Friday nights). Great music and pretty girls. After that, it was nice to know that the corner of Church and Flatbush was safe on Friday night and you could fall into Bert-Lou to check out the latest styles.
Summer at Brighton Beach Baths was a great substitute for an air conditioned apartment. So was the Loew's Kings, and Jahn's. The more I remember, the more I miss.
Now living the California lifestyle in L.A. What ever happened to the rest of the EHHS class of '61?

Flatbush Ave. in the early 60s . . . Erasmus Hall High School . . . lunch at Garfield's on Flatbush and Church . . . sitting on the Dutch Reformed Church steps with "the gang" on warm summer nights.
Loew's Kings, the RKO Kenmore, and Jahn's!
Ice skating in Prospect Park, first on the lake, then at the rink after it was built. Dancing with Chuck Grossman on our Saturday night dates. Going to Botanic Gardens on the sneak to check out the tropical foliage in the hothouse and admire the cherry blossoms in the Japanese Garden.
Summer days at Manhattan Beach, then to Bay 2 at Brighton; watching the Schaeffer fireworks on Tuesday and Thursday nights from the Boardwalk at Brighton. Nathan's and the Cyclone!
Hotdogs and knishes from Kings Kosher Katering . . .
I could go on and on, but now I'm hungry! I miss the food and the people, but "you can't go home again."
