I left Brooklyn 1953 and joined the Air Force, great memories I still have. P.S. 107 then Holy Family School on 14th Street. Manual Training before it became John Jay. The 40s & 50s were great. I now live in Phoenix, Ariz. I miss the pies and the hero sandwiches. The egg creams were always the best. I always had a good time at Sunset Pool or The Red Hook Pool in the summers. There was only one baseball Team"The BUMS."

My Brooklyn is a city deep inside
It is a place where I love to hide
On a map it does not exist
My Brooklyn is a morning kiss
My Brooklyn is an identity
It is my adored reality
In my heart you will find
The Brooklyn where I reside.by Brooklyn
(I have never been there, but seeing as how it is my namesake, I have a deep appreciation for the city.)

I like to be accurate in my assessment of Brooklyn. Although there is much nostalgia about "when Brooklyn was the world," some areas of today's Brooklyn have fallen prey to vandalism and danger and people who aren't respecting homes, monuments or persons, which is very sad. But I haven't been everywhere in Brooklyn, so I haven't witnessed everything there is to see. I like to discover the good areas of Brooklyn, since Brooklyn has lots of charm and beauty. MY Brooklyn is Bay Ridge and it is a wonderful neighborhood. It's family oriented and residential, but also cultural and sophisticated without being too trendy. It is basically very "homey" and enchanting. People take pride in their properties and decorate for the holidays to the point of kitschthere's a sweetness in the neighborhoodstreets lined with trees; brownstones and homes of all kinds; lots of children; delis and restaurants of every nationality; different cultures living peacefully. The air is truly filled with birdsong, as corny as that may sound, and now there are bright tulips everywhere! There are wonderful walks to the water and well, I could go on and on. It's a pleasant, wonderful place to live and although I'd use caution anywhere at night, basically it's very safe.
