I was born in Brooklyn in 1951. I lived in the Projects on York Street (across from the Navy Yard). I went to school at P.S. 7, P.S. 8 (Brooklyn Heights). We moved to Cumberland St. across the street from the Brooklyn Eye and Ear Hospital and I went to Rothschild Jr. High School 294. Brooklyn is my home town and I am proud of it. We moved to Puerto Rico and later on to Florida, where I now reside. I have beautiful memories of Brooklyn. Coney Island, Brighton Beach, Prospect Park, summer nights sitting on the fire escapes and just watching the world go by. Brooklyn, the owner of my heart and childhood memories.
I grew up in East Flatbush. I went to P.S. 244, Meyer Levin J.H.S., and Tilden H.S., where I graduated in 1967. I moved to Miami in 1973. Would like to hear from others from the old neighborhood or Flatbush Boys Club. My memories were of a neighborhood where everyone knew everyone, life was simple, and we felt safe.
Has anyone seen this cast of characters? During the early '70s they could have been easily found on the corner on E. 29th St. and Tilden Ave. . . . smokin' a Marlboro or drinkin' a beer (thugs that they were!). Or hangin' around Dominic Vitucci's garage or playing handball in the White Alleys on E. 28th St. Back then they were easy to find, but time and miles have changed all that.
Here's a few names from my "Brooklyn 10 Most Wanted" list: Gary Pandrella, Jimmy and Billy Baner, Eddie Caban AKA Guba, Tommy and Joe Grady, Danny Westurland, Ronnie Hoffman, Ronnie Howard, the Walsh Brothers. Wherever these "kids" are today, I just want to let I know I remember 'em, and wish 'em well! If ya spot one of 'em, e-mail me. . . Sorry, no reward!
