Readers Report
Born in Brooklyn in 1951 and left for college in 1968. Began in Crown Heights at 456 Brooklyn Ave., in 1958 moved to Midwood (1002 Ave. N) and P.S. 199, then Cunningham J.H.S., unhappily attended Hebrew School at Ave. N Community Center, where playwright Arthur Miller would sometimes go to services with his mother. Then in 1964 moved to Ditmas Park and Erasmus Hall. Memories include Prospect Park Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Empire Blvd., Ebbets Field being torn down and reconstructed as apartments, pizza and ices on Ave. O and E. 10th St., and deli on Coney Island Ave. by Ave. O. Summers at Brighten Beach by Coney Island Ave. with friend Gertrude and July 4th at Coney Island. Hanging out in summer until "late" with kids, catching fireflies. As teenager, can recall beautiful walk to H.S. over a mile, meeting up with friends and laughing all the way. Skating at Wolmen Rink, lunch or coffee at Garfields, shopping downtown every September for school clothes at Martins and A&S's with my mother. Traumatic visit to "Corsetorium" on Flatbush Ave. for first training undergarment. NBC studios on Ave. N. and the BMT lines, throughout which I was an expert navigator. . . . My fondest recollections are of Brooklyn and although I left after H.S., I still listen for the familiar accent in all its variations, and am eager to reminisce when able. Thanks for this opportunity. . . . Other's letters are great!

I was browsing through the wonderful reader reports when I came across #202Jim Murphy. How ya doin', Murph, it was good to read your memories, what ya been up to the last twenty years or so? Of course I remember Farragut Pool until it closed to make way for a Pathmark Supermarket. I, too remember football on concrete in Farragut Park! To answer your question what could we have been thinking ofcertainly not broken bones, but the joy of a touchdown and a beer (or more) later in Mahoney's on Avenue D. I have great memories, and sad memories, including the breakup of the neighborhood, but God Bless us, those memories, and the people who now have their own memories of our neighborhoodthat will always be the beauty of Brooklyn.

My Brooklyn was Schnectady Avenue between Ave. D and Foster. I lived there from 1942 until 1960. I went to P.S. 208 from 1942 to 1947. Mrs. Ebelig was principal. My favorite teacher was Mrs. Sayers. I then went to Midwood where I graduated in 1951. On to Wesleyan University. I moved away from Brooklyn in 1960. Great memories of Farragut Pool, Paedergut Park (softball, basketball and handball), St. Paul's Methodist Church, Midwood High, Hi-Y and DeMolay. 'Id love to hear from old friends or even "friends of old friends."
