Readers Report
I remember Brooklyn . . . sure do . . . only good times . . . Clarkson Ave. and Rockaway Pkwy. . . . fire hydrants in the summer time . . . sitting on our tar roof and sunbathing . . . 2-J's candy store . . . and good old Eastern Pkwy to pick up guys in the summer . . . Lincoln Terrace Park where we used to play handball and go under the sprinklers to cool off . . . and of course, the IRT to travel uptown to NY and feel like you really traveled out of the country. . . . We didn't have a lot of $$$ but we sure had the best times of all. . . . Also remember the pickle man on Rutland Rd. and the Snackery where our gang used to meetgreat times. Anyone from that area, please e-mail me.
My mother, brother and I took pictures at the Pope Studio when I was about 4 or 5 years old (1968-69). I tried to find these pictures several years ago to find that the studio had closed down. If anyone could lead me in the direction of finding these pictures I would greatly appreciate it. I have a copy of one of pictures and it has a six digit number on the back of it: 140682. I don't know if this would be of any help with finding my family pictures but that is all the information I have.
Thank you in advance.
From my beginnings on East New York Avenue cor. Utica and Empire Blvd., we moved to E. 54th Street cor. Tilden. I went to P.S. 244, had my bar mitzvah on E. 53rd with two other guys at the same time. Oh those two years of private lessons with a rabbi who stunk from fish all the time, OY! Moved on to P.S. 258 Meyer Levin Jr. High, where we were the first class to enter, and the first class to graduate (June '56). The family moved to E. 52nd St. bet Ave. H & I. I graduated Tilden in June '59. Those were great years, the Glenwood Projects, the Triangle Restaurant, Frank's Pizza. Most important were the friendships with about twenty guys and girls which we continue to nurture forty years later. Had an emotional reunion in January 2000 with some who hadn't seen each other in forty years. I loved Brooklyn in the 50s and 60s; nothing but good memories!
