Readers Report
My parents just recently moved from the co-op apartment where they lived for close to 47 years. They moved to New Jersey, of all places! My two kid brothers have lived in Jersey for years. I have lived in the Pacific NW for the past 26 years. Yet I felt that I was always connected to Brooklyn and visited every year or so, if for nothing but to brush up on how to talk right. Ya know whaddImean! So, after all this time, in order to stay connected all I have left is my bimonthly copy of Brooklyn Bridge magazine, websites like this one, and the inevitable question from all those that I meet: "Where are you from?"

I attended P.S. 167 on Eastern Parkway and perhaps Utica Ave.
Was born in Brooklyn, left it as a young girl of eleven.
Have permanent, clear, concise pictures in my mind's eye.
Eastern Parkway with its benches and then quiet and peace.
See the playground of P.S. 167 clearly, the steps leading down from the
school.
See the auditorium which then was huge to a young girl.
Remember the colorful, sharp aromas from the shops on Utica Ave.
Remember the Brooklyn Children's Museum with delight, still see the birds
that we colored in some kind of after school class.
Remember sleigh riding in Prospect Park, or perhaps a smaller park that was
walkable from President Street.
Remember St. Johns Ave. with a movie and perhaps a vaudeville act?
Remember Union St., Sterling Place so vividly.
Remember the library right across the street from P.S. 167
Went back in the fall of 1999, saw the area with the eyes of an eleven year
old . . . seemed much smaller . . . but much the same.
Would love to hear from anyone sharing these memories.
My name then was Lenore Eisner. . . .
I lived in the Ft. Hamilton section of Brooklyn from 1937-1964. It was a great place to grow up. Park and recreation areas all along Shore Road from 101st Street to 69th Street. Bicycle paths all along the ocean front area from 69th Street to Bay 8th Street.
Where the footing of the Verrazano Bridge is on the Brooklyn side was "our" old swimming hole. Fishing and crabbing also. It was a child's paradise.
I now reside in middle Georgia but still miss Bay Ridge/Brooklyn. Enjoyed my visit to your excellent site!
