Readers Report
My Brooklyn was the Marine Park area in the early to mid 70s. I spent a lot of my free time with my friends at the playground on Avenue U. I went to James Madison H.S. and I remember hanging out in Kings Plaza before it officially opened! I am married and living in the Seattle area but I will never forget the days of my youth. I miss bagels, egg creams and cannollis, fries with cheese at Roll'n Roasters in Sheepshead Bay . . . ahh soo much. If anyone knows what happened to the following people let me know: Jimmy Bonamassa, Chris Barsha, Janet Falcone, Louie Tipaldo, Debbie/Karen Ronner, Roy Derossi, Alexis Maltz, Sue Fertel, George Pipinno, Paula Glancy, Eileen Ginsberg, Susan/Nancy Jaeger, Patti Vittucci, Tommy Flanagan . . .

I left Brooklyn at the age of 20 almost 27 years ago for Atlanta, GA.
When I get back I still have to drive past the places of my childhood.
Brighton Beach Baths, where I shared a locker with my father.
The Avalon, which was on Kings Highway along with Dubrows.
When I go back Brooklyn has changed but it's still Home!

Martin Finkelstein refers to Myrna Katz Frommer and Harvey Frommer's It
Happened in Brooklyn: An Oral History of Growing Up in the Borough in the
1940s, '50s, and '60s (New York: Harcourt Brace, 1993). It's a wonderful
book, and I've requested permission to post a few excerpts to "1010 President
Street." DNM
My Brooklyn was and still is in my heart, 158½ Central Ave. It was the time in the 60s that I'll always remember the most for playing stickball, handball, bottle cap games, marbles, flipping baseball cards for trading, football in the streets. Oh, who could forget opening a Johnny pump and wetting people and cars going by. Summers were hot and were also time for an ice cream from Mr. Softy. Sicilian pizza, hot pretzels, hot dogs, and sub sandwiches where just a few of my favorites. Spending time with my friends building go-carts out of two-by-fours, baby carriage wheels, Coca Cola grate as the seat and decorating it with bottle caps and cards just to race was a BLAST. Not to mention most of all was to visit the Brooklyn Zoo, Knickerbocker Park, Coney Island, Palisades Amusement Park with friends and family. The subways and buses were a big part in my life also. The snow and the summers were GREAT. Gosh, I feel old but not when I bring back these memories. Thank You So Very Much for putting this page together for all those from Brooklyn.
