The area I lived in as a child was East 47th Street, otherwise known as Schenectady Avenue and Church Avenue. I can still hear the Church Avenue trolley cars, the bustle of the people waiting for the cars that connect with the subway to Brighton Beach or take you up to movies and restaurants and shopping in the Flatbush Avenue area or take you to the Greek coffee shop, the movies and the bowling alley on Utica Avenue, or get you to Tilden or Erasmus High School, or take you up to Prospect Park or get you to Ebbets Field or connect to get you to the other five boroughs.
During W. W. II I lived on the 2nd floor apartment and was able to overhear a lot of the conversations of people waiting for the trolley cars. I was a young child at the time. If I were older, I might have written a book.
The Brooklyn I remember was people walking and seeing their neighbors and friends en route just about anywhetre. It also had the smells of lox and white fish and pickles and corned beef and freshly baked bagels and Kaiser rolls, and as I think of it now makes me feel warm all over.

I remember starting kindergarden at P.S.108 on Linwood St. As I got older I remember going across the street to Bill's candy store and buying penny candiesthe little red ones are really good. After that I went to St. Rita's between Atlantic and Liberty Ave. It was a wonderful place to learn. I remember my favorite teacher was my fourth grade teacher named Sister Alice. She was and is in my book the best nun/teacher in the world. I loved when my mom would pick us kids up from school and take us to Highland Park were we would swing, run, climb monkey bars and ride the seesaw. Then I went to Franklin K. Lane H.S. Met a lot of people that I'm still close with to this day. That's the Brook I remember.
I'm just 31 but it's still the Brook I remember and love.

I lived in Brooklyn at 1863 E. 12th St. from 1959 until 1976. My memories include my father and I walking along King's Highway on a summer night eating Carvel ice cream cones. I also remember going to Sheepshead Bay on Sunday mornings and watching the fisherman selling their catch. I went to P.S. 153 and Cunningham Junior High School. There are so many memories from Brooklyn it would take too many pages to document. I do remember it being a beautiful place as a child. There were parks and places for a kid to go all year long. I wish my kids could have seen Brooklyn the way I saw it growing up. I currently live in Tacoma, WA.
